I have always been active from a young age. My Mom said I was running before I could walk. Because I loved to run, I excelled at Track and Field and ran for my High School and College. I carried on running for years and always preferred long distances. I met a like-minded friend who was a great training buddy so we ran marathons together. Our favourite race was New York marathon and we felt blessed to be able (after obstacles) to race in 2001. I wouldn't say I'm an adrenaline junky but, I did get all sorts of injuries and along with physio, Pilates was prescribed as part of my rehabilitation however, as soon as I recovered, I would stop. It took me awhile before I realised that in order to minimise injuries, I needed to continue doing Pilates.
I stumbled across Group Exercise by pure chance when I joined a major gym chain in Maidenhead. I started coaching other participants in the classes when the instructors didn't turn up. Members feedback was so positive and they said if I ever became an instructor, they would attend my classes. So I initially trained to teach indoor cycling 'Spinning'. I still needed physio for whatever would go wrong with me and as I was now attending Pilates classes, decided to qualify to teach it. The rest they say is 'history'. I joined Claire and the team at Power of Pilates in 2013 and of all the group exercises I teach, it's my favourite. I like the fact that it is for everyone young and old, able bodied or even not so able.
