What happens in a Pilates Reformer Class?

You will work on the Reformer - a moving platform on wheels - which is attached to a set of springs of varying resistance, which can be adjusted to either support or challenge you - allowing you to control the difficulty of movement. Some movements incorporate the long straps used by legs and arms and you will switch between lying down, sitting and standing!

The movements are combined into a smooth, continuous flow. As with a matwork class, you work at your own pace and ability. Your qualified reformer instructor will always be on hand to help you with your set up and advise on any modifications.

The class will start with a warm up and then progress to a series of flowing exercises designed to bring balance to the body with an emphasis on focus and technique. The class will offer strength, flexibility, core stability and mobility exercises with progressions offered to increase the intensity and to challenge you. Your highly trained Pilates instructor will guide and support you throughout.

Why should you come to Reformer Pilates?

Results, results, results! The Reformer is designed to enhance, support and improve the effectiveness of your workout.

If your goal is to improve your fitness, strength, flexibilty and alignment - this is for you! The spring resistance works to safely sculpt, tone and stretch the muscles and offers you the opportunity to work in multiple planes of resistance.

If your goal is to improve your posture, mobility, balance, strength and flexibility - this is for you! The reformer creates a more dynamic environment that can promote stretching and strengthening in ways that aren't accessible when you are on a mat. The springs offer support to allow you to work through ranges of movement that are challenging unaided.

Is this the right “level” for me?

The Reformer is a great option for all abilities, regardless of age or fitness levels. Beginners can take time to build their confidence and endurance before moving on to an intermediate level and progressions, duration and props can be used to increase the intensity for those who like it spicy!
